I understand the beauty and handwork involved in making high end watches , and the pleasure it can give to wear a piece of art on the wrist .

I do not consider a watch like a Patek Nautilus or a AP Offshore to be anywhere near the top of the watch tree . They are just the basic models of high end brands . They are in no way unique , in fact they are fairly common .

The real Ferrari "s of the watch world are the minute repeaters and multi complications . These watches cost about the same price as a Ferrari .

The rich are always trying to out do one another by buying something not many or no one else owns . It is a game that gives huge profits to car - watch-art etc firms who sell exclusive products .

I know a few people who would look down their noses at owning a watch that hundreds of others also owned like a Nautilus or Offshore .

The Ferrari owner looks down on the Porsche as common.
The Lange owner looks down on the AP as common .
The Audi owner looks down on the VW as a lesser brand
The Rolex owner looks down on Omega
Omega look down on Tag Heuer

It is endless and serves no purpose what so ever .

But one thing is worth thinking about . I bet Seiko make better real dive watches than AP Willy
