Complications and tradition.

Technical masteries and complications have all ways been the specialitys of brands like Patek-AP-JLC and IWC.There are other brands that make them today but none of them have the history of these brands.
Tourbillons have been the speciality of brands like Blancpain-Breguet the father of all Tourbillons. And of course Girard Perregaux master of the Three Gold Bridges maybe the most beautiful ever made.
Moonphase and Astronomical watches are the specialitys of Patek-Ulysee Nardin-IWC and Patek.
The Minute Repeater is the most expensive of all complications and few brands have made them. The brands that are famous for making this complication are Patek-IWC-AP
All of the above brands have been making these types of watches for over a century. They have a history of watchmaking expertise that puts them at the very top of Swiss watch brands. But in my eyes one brand is more unique than the others. Not because they make better watches than the others. But because they have covered nearly every aspect you can think about in watchmaking. And are without a doubt the Brand that have achieved more firsts in the industry than any other. That brand is IWC! They have covered such a broad spectrum of watchmaking unlike the other brands named above.
They made the first dive watch with a depth guage The Deep One.First diver to be waterproof at 2000 meters without the use of a Helium valve.First truly antimagnetic dive watch the Ocean.First antimagnetic watches Pilot and Ingenieur .The list is endless. They also make the Destriero Scafusia this is the most complicated serially produced watch in the world ever.
So if people on this site wonder why i have a soft spot for IWC and do not like them compaired to lesser brands. The answer is above for you to read. But i will say at the same time that in no way do i consider that IWC make the best watches out there. But i think they are quite special. What do you think?

  • Verdens mindste runde ur: Ladybird (1956).
  • Verdens mindste kalender og månefase værk: Kal. 6395, h: 4,90 mm. dia: 21,00 mm (1983).
  • Verdens tyndeste automatiske stopurs-værk: Kal. 1185, h: 5,50 mm. dia: 26,20 mm. (1987).
  • Verdens mindste repetition minutes værk: Kal 35, h: 4,85 mm. dia: 23,90 mm. (1987).
  • Verdens tyndeste splitsekund-kronograf værk: Kal. 1181, h: 5,53 mm. dia: 26,20 mm. (1988).
  • Første automatiske splitsekund-kronograf værk: Kal. 1186 (1989).
  • Verdens tyndeste tourbillonværk: Kal. 23, h: 3,50 mm. (1989)
  • Mest komplicerede serieproducerede automatiske armbåndsur: Blancpain 1735 (1991).
  • Første automatiske repetition minutes værk: Kal. 33 (1993).
  • Verdens tyndeste håndoptrukne værk: Kal. 610, h: 2,10 mm (1993).
  • Verdens mindste automatiske værk: Kal 615, h: 3,90mm dia: 15,70 mm. (1995).
  • Første dameur med fly-back kronograf (1998).
  • Verdens tyndeste eveighedskalender værk: Kal. 5621, h: 2,91 mm. (2005).

Blancpain are one of the brands that do not get the respect they deserve . I think it is a great pity we do not have a Danish outlet for them . They had problems a few years ago with a reputation for very slow service . But today nearly all top brands are slow inclusive IWC Icon_e_wink The workmanship and finish of all Blancpain watches is of a very high standard indeed . I think many of their lesser known models are a steal , as a used buy. Unless people write about different Brands and watches on forums like this , we can forget just how many good brands exist out there . Nice to see someone not writing about Rolex-Omega-IWC-PAM etc etc , for a change <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> Willy

True the DS is based on the 7750 design . Because IWC wanted a reliable base movement . The 7750 has got only the basic design element in it when IWC have finished it . I have read a few times that many consider IWC complications to be some of the most reliable and simple to use , that you can buy . I have read a few nightmare stories about some brands complication watches. Willy
