Hands on med Apple Watch

Nedenfor finder I lidt billeder fra en session med Apple Watch i Apple Store Grand Central i går. Jeg tænkte, at det kunne være sjovt at dele det med jer andre.

Jeg havde bestilt tid til en præsentation af Apple Watch, som betød at jeg, i stedet for at stå ved de 'almindelige' borde ude i det store salgslokale, blev ført ind i et særligt Apple Watch demo lokale med stande hvor man kunne stå med sin Apple person. Udover det var det ikke specielt. Der var en intens stemning i rummet, masser af folk der talte osv.

Billederne er i iPhone kvalitet - og lyset var lidt vanskeligt i lokalet. Så er I advaret

Jeg havde jo selvfølgelig et mekanisk ur på, så jeg kunne sammenligne æblerne med en pære. Modellen med den hvide rem er en Sport version i alu på 38mm mens den sorte version er Sport i sort alu på 42mm.



Det første jeg lagde mærke til var at remmen var utroligt blød og lækker - ikke en helt almindelig gummirem.

På mit håndled synes jeg 38mm versionen virker bedst



...mens 42mm versionen bliver for voldsom. Igen er det smag og behag, men Apple Watch er en lidt voldsom ting rent designmæssigt.



Apple Watch i 42mm virker relativt tykt, mens 38mm versionen virkede lidt mindre voldsom. Det kan også være farverne eller også er der måske reelt ingen forskel.

Kronen, som I kan se på billedet ovenfor kalder Apple for 'Digital Crown'. Det er den, som styrer en del af betjeningen. Meget lækker at dreje på og røre ved.

Bagsiden af uret indeholder de sensorer, der bl.a. kan mærke din hjerterytme.



Man kan få Apple Watch med forskellige remme. Her er det en blå læderrem med magnetisk lukning. Lækker lukning, men remmen føltes ikke helt som læder.



En af de remme, som har været meget omtalt er Milanese-remmen. En klassisk flettet metalrem. Den bliver også lukket med magneter og virkede meget lækker.



Og her er vist en læderrem i en lidt anden farve



De ure man kunne prøve på armen var ikke tændt, men man kunne prøve uret fastspændt i en demo-holder. Skærmen er altså flot.



Et lille navigationsbillede



Generelt virkede interfacet hurtigt og rimeligt intuitivt. Det er noget forskeligt fra en iPhone/iPad givet skærmens størrelse, så man skal bruge de to knapper på siden til at supplere. Men umiddelbart virkede det OK.

Ude i det store salgslokale var der nye borde med overblik over de mange varianter



Nej, jeg så ikke Apple Watch Edition, dvs. guldmodellen. Den fører de ikke i butikken på Grand Central.

Ja, jeg har bestilt et Apple Watch Sport i 38mm med blå gummirem. Det kommer om et par uger.

Jeg er fascineret at ny teknologi og mulighederne i det. Det bliver spændende over de næste år at se hvad Apple Watch kan blive til. Denne version er en klar version 1.0, hvor der er masser af ting der skal udvikles på (funktionalitet, urets tykkelse, batterilevetid osv osv). Tænk på hvor meget der er sket med iPhone/smartphones siden 2007, hvor den første iPhone blev introduceret. Det bliver spændende at se.

Og jeg nød at spænde mit mekaniske ur på armen igen.

Well i have to be honest.It looks like something the cat dragged in.I mean if you saw this watch with a Rolex or PP motive on it.Well would you still buy it?I do not think it looks good in anyway,it is more like a watch they give away free in a cornflakes packet.So if we forget the design and look at it as a piece of new technolgy,what do we have?Something that is already out of date is the answer.I like new ideas that can make life easier for everyone.But i cannot see anything in this product,and i am sure that it has no real future as a watch or something that will last more than 5 minutes.Apple are really getting into the mass indoctrination market.It is pathetic to see so many brain washed idiots waiting outside their shops to see the newest product.They seem to have learnt something from Joseph Goebbels,on how to seduce the masses.

Haha, Willy. Such a typical comment from you. Rant, rant, rant....combined with a few choice words for Apple, including a comparison with a Nazi war criminal. Nice....but thank you for sharing your point of view.

As I see it, the Apple Watch is not trying to compete on the same terms as Rolex, PP or any of the other mechanical watches.

Don't be fooled by the form factor. This is not a watch, just as the iPhone is no longer a phone in spite of the name. The only similarity is that it is competing for a place on the wrist of the consumer. And they are not aiming for the mechanical watch enthusiast found in here either.

The long term game - in my view, please feel free to differ - is that this is about convenience. Getting information, unlocking doors, paying for stuff and probably a lot of other things we haven't even thought of yet. This is version 1.0 - Apple will iterate the hell out of it, just as they have done with the iPhone. They will go down the usual Apple route - thinner, more capable, etc. as the technology improves (battery, chips, etc.) - and as for being out of date, well I guess that's what software updates are for

The design will (hopefully) improve as well over time - right now it is not really a thing of beauty, except for the finish which is impeccable.

Jeg har det vældigt vanskeligt, med at danne mig en holdning til Apple-Watch. Umiddelbart er jeg tilskyndet til at give Willy ret.
På den anden side har Apple før "disket op" med noget tilsyneladende uanvendeligt, som udviklingen i form af app's og netværk afslører er vældigt anvendeligt.

Indtil videre vil jeg ikke lade min egen ide-fattigdom og manglende fantasi afgøre min holdning til Apple-Watch; men lade tid og udvikling afgøre om der er noget hold i fænomenet.

Hvad angår hæderkronede ur-mærkers navn på skiven af en eller anden teknologisk rædsel, vil jeg lade nedenstående billeder tale for sig selv.

I certainly agree that the future of wearables will take many forms as technology evolves - just as our beloved watches moved from the pocket to the wrist. Voice will probably play a big role here.

What I see Apple doing is placing their bet based on their particular strengths in materials, tech, production, brand, etc. Again, this is version 1.0. Let's see how far it will go. To me these are exiting times. The battle has only just begun. And yes, one curse of technology is rapid extinction as new tech emerges.

And now back to our mechanical wonders. Personaliy, I do not see the Apple Watch/wearable competing with the traditional higher-end mechanical watches. They are bought for entirely different reasons. Just look at my first picture - the Apple Watches are very, very distant cousins to the real watch in that picture. They are probably only related through their common use of straps

But the fight for the wrist will probably hit the lower-end watches, maybe only the more basic quartz models. But again, this remains to be seen. It will surely intensify the battle for the many completely naked wrists out there. Nothing new there.
