Watch Of The Week Vacheron Constantin
#1
Vacheron Constantin founded in 1775 is the oldest watch brand in the world . Patek have been second to this brand for most of their
watchmaking life . It is only in recent years that Patek have held the no 1 spot . Not many new watch people know this!
They have a history second to none , and except for a few periods have made high end watches of exquisite design and finish .
Also they have produced some of the greatest complications and classic watches ever seen . They are in others words a Watch
making legend .
Looking into the history of this brand is a real eye opener for many people . The people who have worn
Vacheron watches reads amongst others , Napoleon- Duke of Windsor- Harry Trueman . Vacheron was the brand of Royalty and
made the ultimate watch`s to own for a longer time in history than any other watch brands .

Today they still belong in say the top 5 high end brands who make say 5-40,000 watches a year . In some peoples
eyes they have lost the top spot to Lange or Patek . They have had periods where their design and quality was not up to their usual high
standard . But since they were taken over by the Richemont Group , they are once again making watches that are the equal of anything
made by Patek or Audemars Piiguet , but maybe not Lange who are in a class by themselve Icon_e_smile

Watches like the Malte Regulator- Overseas - Toledo - Kalle - Patrimony etc etc are maybe some of the most
well known . But they make many special order watches , that we normal watch people never see . They are masters at making
watches covered with precious stones , indeed the Kalla Almalfi has 148 baguette - cut and trapezoidal diamonds .

They have about 450 employees and produce about 20-25000 watches a year . So you will not see
many wearing a VC . I have always admired this brand , for going about the buisiness of making watches without the need to
shout about it from the highest roof top . Discretion is their middle name , and watchmaking is their game . They have something
in my book that other brands do not have . You could call it something undifined but unique that has got nothing to do with being
a watch snob . Taking history into account they are still no 1 in my book .

Thank you Kim Icon_e_smile Blancipain did indeed start before VC in 1735 . But they ceased to make watches already in 1932 . They were taken out of mothballs by Jean Biver in 1982 . really just to use the name . So really the modern Blancpain is a relative new brand .
