Inspired by a recent debate on our sister blogg about Steinhart , i would like to give my humble opinion on them .
They are really just one of many brands that shall we say contribute nothing to the art of
making watches . So i think it is wrong to say they are the worst of the bunch . They like many other designer brands are just
meeting a demand in the industry for people who cannot afford to spend a small fortune on a wristwatch . And that is fair enough
in my book . Their watches are of a fair quality and reliability for the price , i do not think many would dispute this .
Some say their problem is that they copy other brands and especially Rolex . Just for the record
there are countless well known brands that have done that . Maybe Rolex look at it as a kind of flattery , that even promotes their own
image with a young public . Look at the duty free watches in any airport in the world , and you will see hundreds maybe thousands of
designer watches that are just nearly copys of top swiss brands . Or should i say heavily inspired by them . There is a market for them
and they are doing nothing wrong in my eyes . Not everyone can afford the best the watch industry has on offer !
Now i come to the bit that seems to get the buyers of these watches up in arms . The value of them
in terms of watchmaking and resale value . They have to score absolute bottem character on the watchmaking part . They use basic
off the shelf calibers and are really just watch assemblers , who get the parts made in the part of the world that does it cheapest .
The resale value of this type of watch is virtually non existent . So its a watch you should buy with the
intention of keeping it . And it must be said these watches can give you years of cheap reliable use .
Would i buy one ? Absolutly not ! I would rather buy a Vintage well made watch with history and made by
a real watchmaker . Would i wear one ? Absolutly yes . If someone gave me one , or if i could buy one for next to nothing . Would i look
down on or comment on anyone wearing one ? Absolutly not . Not everyone in this world is a watch nerd . The only point about these type of watches where i personally draw the line is when the owners of them try to compair them with watches that are out of their league . Value
like beauty is in the eye of the beholder
