Tror nu ikke han vil af med sine, de fleste kørere betragter Daytonaen som det "rigtige" trofæ, istedet for pokalen.

Når man ser de trofæer forstår man hvorfor  Der har været flere Daytona vinderure til salg. Har set nogen Rolex modeller fra vindere af Daytona racet blandt andet. Kan ikke huske om der har været Lemans Rolex til salg. Men mener nu først der er inden for de sidste 2-3 år Rolex har sponsoreret løbet og ure./Mads

'SPIRIT OF LE MANS' TROPHY, A LE MANS TRADITION The 24 Heures du Mans is all about exceptional timing and this can clearly be seen in the watches of the event's official timing partner Rolex. Every year, a special 'Spirit of Le Mans' trophy is presented by the ACO to personalities who best embody the real spirit of Les 24 Heures du Mans. This prestigious trophy is in fact a watch, a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in steel, that has the words 'Spirit of Le Mans' and the name of the recipient engraved on the underside of the watch case. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona has become famous among motorsport fans due to its association with the sport and the number of drivers who wear theirs with pride. However, the 'Spirit of Le Mans' edition of the timepiece is an exclusive honour reserved for those selected by the ACO to receive the trophy. The 2009 'Spirit of Le Mans' winner is Patrick Peter, the General Director of the 'Le Mans Series' and the promoter of the 'Le Mans Classic.' Peter said he was incredibly proud of this recognition, and that the trophy represented his first Rolex watch. 'This award is the result of over 15 years of work in close collaboration with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, and I must admit that I am very happy and proud. The Le Mans Series is now in it's 6th edition and we have lots of ambition so we see this continuing on in the future.' Since 2001, the gallery 'Spirit of Le Mans' trophy recipients represent a kaleidoscopic mix. - 2001: Ferdinand Piech, the president and director of the Volkswagen group Paul Frère, gentleman-driver and prestigious journalist Alain Bertaut, the mastermind behind the rules of Les 24 Heures du Mans - 2002: Derek Bell, driver and five-time winner of the 24 Heures du Mans Jean Redelé, constructor of Alpine Renault René Leret, creator of the Karting Club Association - 2003: Phil Hill, three-time winner of the 24 Heures du Mans and F1 World Champion Norbert Singer, Porsche engineer Herb Fishel, Director of GM's Corvette Racing Programme - 2004: Reinhold Jost, driver Jacky Ickx, six-time winner of the 24 Heures du Mans - 2005: Christian Moity, author of the 24 Heures du Mans annual Henri Pescarolo, four-time winner of the 24 Heures du Mans who today acts as a team manager - 2006: Tom Kristensen, record seven-time winner of the 24 Heures du Mans Yojiro Terada, the doyen of Les 24 Heures du Mans participants Don Panoz, promoter of the American 24 Heures du Mans Series (which also partners with Rolex) Franz-Josef Paefgen, President of Bentley, a constructor that has six victories Les 24 Heures du Mans - 2007: Wolfgang Ullrich, Director of Audi Motor Sports who has six victories at les 24 Heures du Mans Jacques Issautier, record holding journalist who has covered 58 editions of Les 24 Heures du Mans -2008: Yves Courage, constructor and driver who has competed in the 24 Heures du Mans since 1982 Martin Birrane, a former 24 Heures du Mans driver and the owner of Lola Cars Rolex has real fame among drivers of all origins, and all of those who wear a Rolex are proud to display it and talk about the moments in their lives shared with the watch. French Audi driver Alex Prémat, is never without his Rolex, a Cosmograph Daytona, purchased in the well-known Parisian boutique BRY on rue de la Paix. Over at Aston Martin, German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen looks at the watch on his wrist. 'A Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in steel,' he says, 'a gift from my wife on my 40th birthday. I could never be without it. It has become my talisman. But I will let you in on a little secret: my Rolex is never on time,' he says as he points out that he has set the watch 5 minutes ahead so that he is never late for a meeting. Punctuality is imperative to Frentzen. Meanwhile, Yojiro Terada is participating at les 24 Heures du Mans for the 30th time. Terada shows his Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with pride. 'Look- I received it in 2006 from the ACO- the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, who organizes the 24 Heures du Mans. I had finished 13th in a P2, in the Lola B05/40 with Timpany and Binnie. We had completed 326 laps. I received this supreme recompense the same year that Don Panoz and Tom Kristensen were honoured. It was a year we will never forget and I am so proud of my Rolex trophy!' Danish driver Jan Magnussen earned his Corvette Racing team their very first pole position in history two years ago year, and was racing in the LMGT1 category with the Corvette C6.R number 63. 'Of course I already have 'my' Rolex,' said Magnussen. 'I own two that really have particular stories behind them. One was a gift from Jackie Stewart, a Rolex Testimonee, from when I was a part of his team in 1997 and 1998, and the other one is also very, very special. I won it with my victory at the Rolex 24 At Daytona- and you could never separate it from me.' Japanese driver Daikuke Ito participated in his first 24 Heures du Mans in the Dome Judd S102 in 2008. 'I have a secret,' he admits, smiling. 'I have two Rolex watches. The first one is a Rolex Submariner, a generous gift from one of my sponsors. The other is a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona which was given to me by Keichi Tsuchiya, the boss of the Arta team in Super GT, as a thank you for a job well done.' Shinji Nakano, a former F1 participant (1997-99) and another Japanese driver, is equally as appreciative of the Rolex brand. 'I bought an Oyster Perpetual Explorer II,' he says, 'and it is superb. Also one of my friends offered me a Rolex Submariner for my result in the 2005 24 Heures du Mans. It was an extraordinary gift.' The list of drivers who are associated with the famous watch brand seems endless. However, one particularly touching story comes from John Nielsen, owner of the Essex team. He got engaged in 2007 at Le Mans and offered a Rolex to his fiancée. In addition he has been wearing the same Rolex Cosmograph Daytona for the past 20 years. Dutch driver Peter Van Merksteijn explained, 'My fiancée Fatihah always wears my Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in steel and gold that I bought in Zurich five years ago. My dream however, is to get my hands on a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in steel which would be more suitable for my day job, seeing as I am the president of a major organisation that produces steel in Europe!
