A lot of watch brands that thrived in the earlier part of the 20th century met their fate when Quartz came to dominate the horological landscape. One of the greatest losses was the original Universal Geneve watch company. This company kicked some major ass in terms of designs, technical firsts, and pure-bred pedigree.
For example, UG's 1954 Polerouter was the official watch of the Scandinavian Airlines System when they decided to take a completely new route from the US to Europe, over the North Pole, shaving hours off of the flight time. It was "the first new route to Europe in a thousand years" and because the watch would be worn
over the North Pole, it had to be strongly anti-magnetic and shock-resistant. Later Polerouters would use one of the earliest micro-rotor system ever developed, eventually a concept used to make the first automatic chronographs and now in use by dozens of brands (including Piaget in this awesome new ultra-thin skeleton). Did we mention the Polerouter was also Gerald Genta's first design for a major watch house, a design he completed at the ripe age of only 23?
Then there are UG's Compax models, some of the most beautiful chronographs of the 1930s-60s. Truman wore a tri-compax UG while attending the Potsdam Conference, and Juan Peron was also a fan. Carl McFarland who, as an Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, was reputed to be the mastermind behind President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1937 Supreme Court-Packing Plan, whereby FDR through proposed legislation would have been able to pick one new Supreme Court Justice for each Justice over the age of 70.5 years old, up to a maximum of six Justices, also wore a UG (one that we found here).
This particular UG dates to 1940 and sat in a drawer for the majority of its life. When it was discovered, a jeweler did make the unfortunate decision to freshen the lume-plots but thankfully left the rest of the dial completely original. The case, sized at 35mm, is largely unpolished as well.
So, while these Hermes Universal Geneve watches are quite rare and somewhat costly, vintage UG chronographs can be found for a relative pittance considering just how important this brand was and where its roots lay. Univeral Geneve chronos are considered by many to be "The Poor Man's Vintage Patek," and we don't see a single thing wrong with that.
Om jeg kan få min kollega til at fremvise sit outfit her på sitet er måske tvivlsomt, men han bærer faktisk stilen rigtig godt,stor sportstrænet og skarp som han fremtræder, og han ligner faktisk Indy en hel del, mode ubarberet osv,...men dog uden pisk og engelsk Webley militær pistol...han skal jo gerne kunne tage bussen hjem
Tak for hjælp fra jer begge....men flere forslag skal være velkomne...disse ure kan jo være svære at finde måske, men tidsmæssigt/udseendesmæssigt tror jeg at det er fantastiske forslag i er disket op med.
