does anyone know how strong a patek is?

i have 2 offshore watches, and never been a problem swimming/snoggling with it both in pool and in ocean with strong waves. But i have not tried with extreme activity yet, IMO it is rough enough to bear sport acitivities.

These high-end sportwatches are not sportswatches like a Submariner etc, the movements are much to delicate, but I think they can with stand a lot- but not a whole lot.

You would probably be better of getting him to test-dive in under arctic waters – or climbing an iceberg
