OleJ Skrev:No doubt in their day pams were good divers.Yes i would wear a G.Shock as well Ole.Yes i think most divers out there today are a combination of dress and free time dive watch. But i like tradition as well. And Panerai like Rolex are just like the Morgan car they have history and charm. But sometimes its funny why brands do not continue to develop as they could.Just a little point the lume on a Seiko diver is much much better than the lume on a Rolex or a Pam.Why is it that a watch at a fraction of the price is so much better on one point? I mean they could easily do it better. There are many other points but i will not bore you with them.I just think that today they have to keep their market and radical change in the design of a pam or Rolex would hit their sales maybe.I understand their chain of thought but they pay a price for their conservitive politics. And i think that price is progress. And therefore i think there are Divers out there today that are so much better as a back up watchwilly Skrev:Ole what i mean is that Panerai is a design that goes back to the second world war as you know.It is a much older design than Rolex without even a diving bezel. It is a retro watch.Rolex have been used by proffesionals like i used to be for many years.I was issued with one in the military.Rolex have also stood still for many years like Panerai and have not developed much just improved.A bit like the Porsche 911.So forget about me having blinkers on i have not.I like Rolex and some Panerai watches but i have honest opinions about them.I do not try to defend them at any price. And lets face it Time has left Panerai behind as a serious diving watch.I sure as hell would not wear one if i was in the armed forces today.Willy
Well the Submariner is designed in '53 so that is just about second WW anyway. Panerai's watches was actually ONLY made for professionals, and it looks like they served their purpose quite well.
In the 50's Panerai made diving watches with diving bezels fyi. Today a diving bezel actually makes no sense in a professional sense , as you are only alloved diving with a diving computer anyway. But you're right - if I was in the armed forces I would not wear a Panerai as a diving watch - nor would I wear a Rolex.. believe the smart choise would be some kind of G-Shock
