Has the value gone for Rolex.

Jeg er dog 100% enig med Stensbjerg - jeg tror på ingen måde tingene ændrer sig for Rolex. Willy, når du sammenligner med en Ford Focus vs. Ferrari, så synes jeg ikke det holder. En bedre sammenligning vil være en Ford Focus med en Ferrari motor (BP osv.) vs. en Ferrari med en Ford Focus motor (Rolex). Jeg tror 95% (og måske endda endnu flere) af dem der køber et Rolex ur er fuldstændig ligeglad med værket og om kassen er maskinpoleret eller poleret i hånden, om 95% af delene er fremstillet in-house (mener jeg f.eks. Glashütte gør) eller om de er fremstillet på en fabrik i Kina. Når de køber er Rolex køber det noget hele andet - det er stil, status, historien, anerkendelsen osv.

                               One big fault i think you and Stensbjerg are making here is this.Do not confuse marketing
with making a good product that will have lasting value.Many brands have made this mistake,and they always
pay the price in the end.Rolex have been living on past achievments for many years now,just like Patek and a few
other brands i could mention.Ask yourself ,when did they last bring anything new or revolutionary to watchmaking?
                            Rolex in my opinion can carry on doing what they do now,for many years to come and they
will sell every watch they make.Nearly all people who know even a little bit about watches know this

                         But it is also a fact that they are becoming a common prestige product.And more and more
people are asking ,what are we getting for the prices we are paying especially on the used market.
We are talking about SS models with basic nearly unfinished calibers here.Some will say they are very reliable
and easy to service.This was a very good sales argument when i bought my first Rolex about 50 odd years
ago,but it does not wash today.There are hundreds of brands making SS sports watches today,that because
of new manufacturing methods can do the same,if not better in many cases.
                        Today modern Rolex watches are not like the old watches.The old models were unique and
nobody made a better or reliable watch at this time in history.The new watches are jewellery pure and simple
just like 99% of all watches we buy today.
                              Lets say they have made about 45 million watches in the last fifty years.That is an awfull 
lot,and of course we have some models that were produced for a short time.So no doubt in my mind,the
demand on the collectors market for these short production watches will be high for many years to come.
                              The internet is the game changer for the future of brands like Rolex in my opinion.
I hear the same argument again and again,do not confuse the great watch buying public with collectors
or watch blogg enthusiasts.Nothing could be farther from the truth! Rolex and other brands like Patek-Ap-
Lange etc etc owe their very existence to watch bloggs and collectors.Take Lange who without the positive
reviews on watch sites would not be where they are today.
                              It was Time Zone and other watch sites that created the demand for many brands,
it was not the great watch buying public!

                            Today even on the Rolex Forum,i can read almost daily about people who are leaving
Rolex to buy other watches.This would have been unheard of just a few years ago.Lets remember that
watch people talk to their friends at their workplace and to family members.So it might take a while but
eventually the great watch buying public ,do get the information in the end.
                           You can fool the public for a very long time,but not for all of the time.And the internet
changes things very quickly today.I think that more people will in the future will be even more aware about
marketing and value for money.
                                             Rolex have reached saturation level for me.I just cannot see the value
anymore.And if i want to invest my money,then i can think of many other ways to do it than wearing
an inferior product on my wrist,when i can get a much better watch for less money.
