However this is not something I've seen om post-2000 references. So it did happen quite often in the past. Some of them were also "project" watches built of spareparts, when Omega spareparts like cases, dials were freely accessible, as its not the case today.

Yes it can happen,but seriously who buys them?And like you say it is not something that grey market dealers do today.
