It's not a fantasy story, I have seen numerous Omega watches with no serial numbers, mainly older Seamaster references from the 90's and many of them from US and Australian grey market dealers. However this is not something I've seen om post-2000 references. So it did happen quite often in the past. Some of them were also "project" watches built of spareparts, when Omega spareparts like cases, dials were freely accessible, as its not the case today.
