As I see it, the Apple Watch is not trying to compete on the same terms as Rolex, PP or any of the other mechanical watches.

Don't be fooled by the form factor. This is not a watch, just as the iPhone is no longer a phone in spite of the name. The only similarity is that it is competing for a place on the wrist of the consumer. And they are not aiming for the mechanical watch enthusiast found in here either.

The long term game - in my view, please feel free to differ - is that this is about convenience. Getting information, unlocking doors, paying for stuff and probably a lot of other things we haven't even thought of yet. This is version 1.0 - Apple will iterate the hell out of it, just as they have done with the iPhone. They will go down the usual Apple route - thinner, more capable, etc. as the technology improves (battery, chips, etc.) - and as for being out of date, well I guess that's what software updates are for

I can only agree with you about convenience being a good thing.The problem is that it can cause a lot of inconviniece when you have to change the product every 5 minutes.Please do not accuse me of ranting about something because i do not agree with your point of view.I would never use this term to describe a honest opinion about anything
