Thank you Torben . There are a few differences of opinion here , but nothing i can prove beyond a shadow of doubt . And it would in some ways be wrong to try to do so , because finding out of who made what in the Swiss watch industry is to say the least difficult . And lets face it all the Swiss brands except for Rolex do not develop or make everything they sell . One thing i am pretty sure of is that Omega amongst many other famous brands still get their calibers from ETA . Not that this makes them worse or better than many so called inhouse calibers . In fact ETA are most probably the best inhouse caliber makers in the world It really does not matter so much today , because of modern production methods many calibers are of almost standard quality . And because i am a truthfull person , or try to be Then i must admit the following . A few years ago IWC decided not to use the same resources in the finishing of their standard calibers as they did in the past . I think they did this because of the price of labour and the desire for more profit . So a modern bread and butter IWC is not finished better than a top model Omega . However a top model IWC is finished to a standard that Omega do not try to achieve . Omega have gone up the watchmaking ladder , and IWC are stagnent in my opinion . I actually believe that Omega are a really bigger threat to IWC market position than any other brand . But if we are discussing watches from the sixties up until ninetys then i honestly believe that IWC made watches of a quality that Omega were not even close to . The Speedy was a unique watch and a beautifull one , and that is rare in a watch in that price class . I do not compair modern speedys with the old models , because the only thing they have in common is the way they look . Like modern Rolex the new models have no soul .
