Rolex and AP keep their value very well . AP Royal Oak is more of a dress watch and if you get any deep hacks in the sharp case edges that cannot be polished out , then you have problems . In my opinion it is entirly unsuited to be used as a do anything watch . Many i know who have owned a AP have been a little afraid to wear them . This is the price you pay for beauty
A Rolex is a much stronger watch in every department . The case and bracelet , and the caliber is built for strength . And the workmanship on a Rolex case and bracelet is superior to anything on a AP .
I would get the AP if i worked in a gentle enviroment , or wanted a dress watch . The Rolex can take anything you can throw at it , and still look good enough to double as a dress watch . If you buy a used AP make sure it is recently serviced , and check the case for hacks . You will hear a lot of fairy stories about people who say the Royal Oak watches are robust . Do not believe this
