Best all round watches

Rolex became the watch for professional use , because they could take more punishment than any other watch . If there were better watches believe me the Military -Divers-Mountaineers etc etc would have found them . The oyster case and reliable caliber was the key to the success of Rolex . I have seen many other famous brands watches completly smashed when subjected to the same punishment a Rolex could take .

No one can deny that Rolex built their world wide reputation by building the strongest watches you could buy . Fashion did not come into it when Rolex built that reputation .

In all my time in the Military i never heard about a Rolex that stopped working . And yes we used to throw them on the floor and against the wall . In fact i would challange any other brand with a mechanical caliber to try to do the same . And yes we did not all wear a Rolex , and i have lost count of other watches that were smashed trying to do the same .

Yes Rolex are to expensive for what they are.
Yes they are no where near the top plane of Swiss watchmaking.
Yes they manipulate the used watch market
Yes they have today become a status fashion symbol
Yes they are today more highly polished and are loosing their tool reputation to some extent
Yes you can buy cheaper watches today that can take the same punishment- hard use etc . But they are all Quartz

BUT.

They still make the strongest mechanical watches in general production today.
They have the best service in the watch world
They keep there value like no other watch
They have a policy of building watches that is quality in every component
They do not have to cut corners on quality because they are a Fund who do not have to make a profit for their shareholders .


The perfect watch for all round use has not yet been made . But i think Rolex are the brand that are closest to that ideal . Willy
