The most complicated serie produced watch in the world . And the only one . Is the IWC Destriero Scafusia , it is built on a ETA caliber .
When will people learn that it is the treatment of a caliber and the finish that makes it special . Also look at Patek or AP finish on a JLC caliber . A IWC ETA based caliber is just as good as a IWC inhouse . The only reason many brands are developing their own calibers is because ETA cannot guaranty to keep on suppling them .
It as been a tradition for maybe 100 years in the swiss watch industry to use out of house calibers . And because many new watch people do not know enough about these traditions . They quite wrongly think that inhouse is better . This is bullshit and nothing to do with the facts . Indeed IWC sell their ETA based watches as inhouse , and have done so for many many years . Just like PP - VC - AP etc etc have done with JLC calibers
Some brands do not just stick a ETA caliber in their watches and polish them on one side . And then call them inhouse . As Brietling - Omega etc etc have been doing for years.
There are real watch making brands who rebuild and finish their ETA calibers to a very high standard .
ETA have built some of the greatest calibers ever seen in the watch world . They are reliable and cheap to service . Inhouse is not always better . And it is the finish of any caliber ETA or inhouse that costs the watch buyer money . Willy
