A good friend of mine who also happens to be a watch dealer told me a story i do not find difficult to believe . It is about the morals of a very very well known watch brand .
Let us call this brand O in this story , because i would not like people who believe everything brands tell them to get to upset .
This brand have a great watchmaking tradition , and a few years ago introduced a new type of caliber . The problem is that over one third of them did not work as they should .
You can imagine the shock they got when dealers all over the world started to send them thousands of watches for repairs in the guaranty period .
So what could they do to stop themselves from loosing a fortune ? Answer . They told their dealers in a very discreet way , that they had to put the blame on their customers . And to tell them that they must have dropped the watch or mistreated it in some way . This way they could get some of the lost money back again .
But there were so many watches coming back to the factory , and they did not have the capacity to repair them all . So they sent the watches to a real manufacturer for repair . And in this story that factory was Glashutte .
Now this story was told by a man who worked in the O factory , he was a skilled watchmaker who had worked for them the last twenty years .
Today he has left the watch trade and he works as a car mechanic because he has a conscience . A brand he loved and dedicated his working life to , turned out to be dishonest .
Now this story is, i have been told allready on the net world wide . All it needs now are a few honest dealers to say if it is true or not true .
My friend tells me it is true . Willy
