Panerai Rolex Vintage 3646 Kampfschwimmer $79,000 SOLD
In my opinion, this is one of the most Rare Panerai watches in existance. This is a Vintage Panerai from the early 1940's. Approximately 200 pieces of the 3646 were created for the Italian Navy. However, the Italian Navy trained 3 groups of *German Naval frogmen in which some were given a Panerai watch identical to the ones given to the Italian frogmen. The only difference was that the dial was void of any identification and had Radiomir Numerals only! Only 20 of these watches wer said to have been created!
This is what all Panerai watches are about! From the early 1940's, this piece was made for an elite team of *German Navel frogmen or **Italian Navy frogmen that rode on the outside of a small two manned submarine. The watch was made in a very large 47 mm case and the numerals were painted within a sandwich dial a glowing Radiomir substance. All of this was designed by the Panerai company that had been making underwater gauges for the Italian Navy since 1860! Of course the watch had to be durable and accurate, so the movement of choice was a 17 jewel Rolex movement. Reliable for life and death missions, this has become a very valuable collectible timepiece.
