Are many watch brands hurting themselves by trying to create a monopoly of servicing their watches and making it difficult for independent watchmakers to get spare parts . I think the answer is yes . They are forgetting that it was independent watch makers and collectors that through watch sites like Time Zone , and Auction Houses like Antiquorum made their watches reputations . Today they have taken over many watch sites and stopped criticism of their watches . And of course the next step is to wipe out any competition in after sales service . The car industry have tried the same trick , it just does not work . And these watch brands have one really big problem . They can never meet the sevice needs of the watches they sell . There are just not enough watchmakers in this world . So in the future we could be waiting 6 months to get our Omega or Brietling etc etc back from the factory , Just like a Patek or AP etc etc today . Or we will see a whole new industry making unoriginal parts for all brands . Rolex are one of the few brands that have a dealer service network world wide . Omega have maybe the financial clout to do the same as Rolex in the future . But smaller brands just cannot do this . And i think that brands that have built their reputations on the backs of small watch makers , who have kept their old watches ticking should feel a little ashamed . What do you think ? Willy
