When i started the tip of the week thread where we could recomend watches for sale in Denmark , i never imagined it would lead me to a watch that i would own . I recomended the Chopard LUC pro GMT that was up for sale at Chrono .DK . I had seen the dark dial versions of this watch , and read many reviews of it . With a true inhouse high end caliber and Chopards reputation for dial and case work , i thought it a good buy at 39000 dkr .
I had nearly made one of my biggest mistakes in buying watches . I had seen pictures of this limited edition model with a white dial , and i could not get this watch out of my head . I just had to see this watch for real . Some watches look better in pictures than in reality , and vice versa . So a telephone call to Thomas ,and a visit to his office was arranged where i would also look at a few other watches .
When Thomas took this watch out of the bag and the light hit it , i was completly blown away . I have owned over 100 watches and seen hundreds more . But nothing ever made an impression on me like this watch . I remember the first time i saw my Lange & Sohne and what that did to me . But it pales in comparison to this Chopard . I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder , but i think anyone who takes a close look at the dial of this watch will be impressed . It is not just the details or design and craftmanship , it is something else that is hard to describe . Most watch people know about the polishing details on the case and bracelet of a AP Royal Oak , and how they catch the light and transform the watch . It is the details like this that seperate the great brands from the run of the mill copy artists . Well this Chopard does it all with bells added on .
This is not a Tool watch at all .Its sold as a GMT dive watch with a 300 m depth rating . Believe me this is the last thing you want to dive with . It would be like swimmming with the Mona Lisa on your back . No this watch takes cofffee bar divers to unheard of depths . If we take all the top CB divers like AP Offshore Rolex modern subs etc etc . They are all pretenders compaired to this Chopard . They all try to be practical and beautifull at the same time . It just cannot be done , so Chopard must have thought , beautifull is enough .
Chopard like Cartier are masters in the art of detailing . Chopard make nearly everthing inhouse , and have been doing this long before any high end brands you care to name . They even melt their own special gold legering inhouse . They use rebuild ETA calibers in their basic models . But are using their own LUC calibers in higher end models . The top LUC calibers are the equal of anything you find in a Patek today , inclusive finish . This model has a LUC 1.96 inside , not Patek standard in finish but equal in workmanship .
This watch walks a very thin line between bling and sophistication . I always like to get other peoples opinions of my watches . And i like the opinions of ordinary people , not watch people . I have found these opinions to be very clear concerning the impressions a watch leaves on the beholder . Everyone i have shown this watch to , do not just like it , they think it is the most beautifull watch they have ever seen on me . I could not agree more
As you might have guessed i did a deal with Thomas and i now own my first Chopard . If Thomas had asked for 20000 more , i think i would have paid it 
I think i have finally realised that the perfect watch will i never find . I have tried so many watches that do certain things well , but look like a engine part . Other watches that look good but do things less well . So now i might as well own something that is just beautifull to look at .
