Micro Brands and small watch firms - willy - 22-05-2014
Micro brands and small watch firms do not have a easy job in a world where branding is so important . But despite this a new one pops up about once a week . Must be money in it somewhere
I think they are filling a gap in the market to buy something different that looks exclusive without having to spend over 20000 kr . I welcome them because many of them give a lot of watch for the money . Most of them are divers that
appeal to a young public who want limited edition watches for small money . The quality is quite good , the cases and straps are spat out by the
same type of CT. machines that make top end watches . The calibers are usually reliable and easy to repair , and service costs are low .
So what is there not to like about them ? Well nothing really except the following points to remember when buying one of them .
They can be very hard to sell . Many of these brands are not exactly household names . And trying to
make a part exchange deal anywhere else but the place where you bought it is a uphill battle . Many of these brands are just no go and
end up selling for a fraction of the new price . But you could say the same about 90% of the worlds watches
So what to do ?I say if you want one buy it but do not expect it to become a classic or keep its value . You could
consider saving just a little more money and buy a used name brand with a bit of watchmaking know how & tradition . I for one am
pleased that people have more of a choice today in buying good quality watches for so little money . This would have been unthinkable
20 years ago . Maybe they can even take some of the market away from the established brands who are ripping us all off with their
exclusive service deals and bad service . Now would that not be nice .
Would i buy one ? Yes if the price was right . I like many of the design elements in Micro brands ,
they can experiment more than the big brands because the risk is not so great . Where the buck stops in my world is where many of the
brands and their followers go over the top with enthusiasm , and start compairing them with brands who have about a hundred years
of watchmaking knowledge and tradition behind them .
To sum up i think micro brands have a place in this watch circus . And in many ways can have
a really positive effect on the industry . It takes all kinds to make a world , and micro brands have their place .

Willy, ligesom med dit forsøg på at kategorisere, hvad der er "high end", er det vel i praksis slet ikke muligt at kategorisere "micro". Hvor lille er lille? 1000 ure om året?
Lad mig tage to (lidt provokerende...) eksempler:
Genesis - en lille tysk producent som pakker standard-værker pænt ind og sælger dem til omkring €2000, de har været på markedet siden 2004 og sælger vel under 1000 om året
F.P.Journe - en ekstremt innovativ producent i Schweiz, laver ganske komplicerede ure, søger hele tiden noget nyt, bruger helst platin til urkasserne, har været på markede siden midt-firserne, sælger vel også under 1000 om året, og resultatet er ure til typisk til fra €100.000.
De er vel begge micro-mærker? Men kan de overhovedet på nogen måde sammenlignes? Jeg kunne aldrig finde på at købe et Genesis, men hvis jeg havde pengene kunne et F.P.Journe godt finde vej til mit håndled.
F.P. Journe er vel high-end, men er det bedre end Seiko? <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

Mange microbrands producenter, som statrer har andet arbejde ved siden af.
Men efterhånder hvis de overlever de første 10 år kan de jo sælge deres ure over hele verden.
Og dyre ure kan altid sælges. Der er en del mennesker som gerne vil købe fordi det er dyrt. Især nyrige.
Når alt kommer til alt så er de fleste lige så glade for prisen på deres ur som historien bag dem. Og jeg synes på en måde at Seikos urhistorie kan være lige så interessant som Rolex og ja, måske ikke Omegas NASA historie men alligevel.
Jeg synes PP ure er et godt eksempel på at der altid er folk til dyre ting. Lang de fleste kender ikke engang navnet, men er det dýrt er det interessant.
Lidt ligesom diamanter hvor zikoner ligner dem rigtig meget, ,men damerne vil helst have "the real thing". Især hvis de ikke selv betaler for dem <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
Ægte diamanter er da fascinerende synes jeg, men var de billige, tjaa, så ville de være mindre interessante.

Endnu et interessant indlæg, fra dig! Jeg har faktisk selv overvejet at købe et ur fra et "Micro-brand" (weiss) men var i tvivl, alene af den grund jeg ingenting vidste om firmaet, kvaliteten etc.
Historie, kendskab osv. Har meget at sige når man overvejer køb ur, medmindre man har uanede mængder af ressourcer, hvilket ikke alle af.

for a new micro brand watch , there are used watches i could get from well known brands if i add just a bit more money . I would buy a
micro if it cost less than 3000 kr . My problem is that i know i can buy a Seiko Marinemaster 300 m with a Unique case and inhouse caliber
for ca. 13000kr or a Seiko Sumo for less than 4000 kr . Compair that to a lump of chinese steel with a basic bottom shelf caliber .

Jeg har netop et Weiss. Det er 100 % en keeper for mig. Dels fordi jeg er SÅ glad for designet men også dels fordi jeg sikkert ikke kan sælge det til noget der bare minder om en fornuftig pris.
Den gode Cameron Weiss har været urmager hos Audemars Piguet og kan sit kram. Uret er top fedt, men kommer ikke til sin ret på billeder. Folk der kommer i morgen kan se det
