Thought it could be interesting to hear what others have as their top five watch brands , and the reasons why . Here goes with mine in no particular ranking order.
IWC. This brand are maybe the only brand that cover so huge a sector and Excel at what they do . They make pilot watches , dive watches , fantastic complications and classic dress watches . Their workmanship is second to none , and they have kept these high standards since they started making watches unto the present day . Just look at this list and tell me if you know any other brand who has made so many Classic watches in so many different fields .
Destriero Scafusia is the most complicated serie produced watch in the world.
IWC Pilot watches are the most well known in aviation history , and the most reliable with there anti magnetic cases .
Ingenieur with its anti magnetic case was a first and instant Classic
Aquatimers . These watches have set standards that many other brands have just copied .
Portuguese watches are classics and led the way for big watches .
Not saying they make the best in everthing but i am saying they have a unique position in the watch world for their variation .
JLC. The watch makers watch . The greatest caliber makers ever . Where would Patek - AP - VC- or IWC be without them . For many years they specialised in calibers and not so much on their own watches . That has changed today . Now they are making complications that no other brands can . And watches of a very high standard . Technically i would place them at no.1 . I do not believe there is another brand that can compete when it comes to making complications. Watches that come to mind of their normal production models are the Compressor models - Reverso - memovox etc etc . They are still today making calibers for many brands that would supprise you if you knew who they were .
Rolex . This brand gets my vote because they made watches that set standards of reliability and pratical design that is a byword in the industry . Today they are more a fashion watch that is very well made and keeps its price better than any other brand . All of the Swiss Watch industry should be gratefull to Rolex . Because during the Japanese Quartz invasion , Rolex more than anyone else helped to keep the mechanical wrist watch industry alive .
Lange & Sohne . Hats off to the Germans . They decided to make watches that could beat any Swiss brands in term of finish and invention . To achieve this they decided to keep production low and to handfinish all of their watches . They make only between 5-6000 watches a year compaired to say Patek who make ca.45000 . They make in my opinion the absolute best factory made watches in the world , when we talk about watchmaking skill and finish . I name no exceptional watches by this brand because all of them are exceptional
Seiko . Have a tradition for watchmaking that is the equal or better than 95 % of Swiss brands making watches today . They cover so many fields . From cheap reliable mechanical or quartz watches to some of the best dive or dress watches you can buy . Lets face it you can recomend Seiko to anyone who wants a value for money watch . The Marinemaster 300m is in my opinion the greatest value for money watch you can buy today . To anyone who thinks Seiko only make average watches , take a look at some of the Grand Seiko watches or their Prospect range .

1 - ROLEX
Råbusthed, design og firmaets konservative politik ang. pjat, så som nye modeller, limited editions, glasbagkasser osv.
2 - OMEGA
Seamaster serien fra sent 90´ene og videre. Robusthed og god kvalitet. Deres modded ETA aka Omega 1120 kal. er en legendarisk holdbar arbejdshest.
3 - SEIKO
Inhouse for ingen penge, robusthed og design ang. nogle få (og mine favorit-) modeller - Marinemaster 300 & 600 0g SKX007 / 9.
4 - GP
Begrænser mig dog til Seahawk II´an. Horologisk fremragende urværker men bortset fra den nævnte dykker, alt for forvirret design.
5 - PP
De helt klassiske dress modeller i rosaguld, evt noget vintage.(minus Nautilus) Altså, når jeg bliver gammel og velhavende, køber en Mercedes og begynder at ryge pibe...
. Der findes mange andre brands, men jeg vil kun nævne de jeg har i personligt kendskab til.
