Re: Good First Time Buy - willy - 13-01-2013 hannover_dk Skrev:Believe me John what ever people write is ok with me , and i do not take offense except when we forget we are talking about watches . To say that i lack empathic understanding is totally wrong . And to suggest that i think i am the only honest person on this blogg is rubbish .willy Skrev:And John why mention Oris or any brand ? Is it because we recently discussed Oris in another thread ? What i am writing here as got nothing to do with that at all .well if not to you - then to me it is an illustration And the evil watch industry as you call it , is stealing money out of rich and poor alike . Have you with all of your years of watch intrest never learnt this simple fact ? I mean do you really believe that without watch dog organizations buisnesses would regulate themselves . Come on John get real . There are no absolutes in this world at all . And i challange you to find one i have written . A debate is meant to enligten people , not end up in personal comments or arguments . You and a few others on this site need to learn this in my opinion. You are welcome to disagree with what i have written , and as you know i never bear a grudge against anyone for having a different point of view . It would have been a very good idea for you and Baun to have commented on what you think about the critical content on other bloggs . Or your views on how to advise new comers to our blogg . But instead as usual you go completly off track and comment on other subjects instead . If we want new people to come onto this blogg we have to give them something that intrests them . I think i do this , and that is why more people read what i write than many others . Debate makes a watch site intresting for its members . Personal attacks drag it down to a level nobody deserves for giving a honest opinion . Have you with all of your years of watch intrest never learnt this simple fact ?That is actually now necessarily the fact either. It is without doubt that there are consumer issues which needs ombudsmanden to look at things – but you – as the warrior against the evil watch industry, does not help the consumer one even the smallest way forward. You see yourself as a warrior fighting the most honest of fights, but it has no effect and is often not even just slightly justified MANY watch companies are fighting for their life financially, even today. Yes Rolex and Omega – Seiko alongside others, but many other are fighting for survival, and your effort does nothing to help people steering clear of bad buys, they just satisfy your own opinions. I actually also believe in the automatics of the free market. If people are willing to pay a price and enough watches from a certain brand, then that is the price of that brand. It is not dictated by specialist like yourself of reviews on how good or bad the movement is – it is dictated by many other things. This is what sets the price of a Rolex – or a Seiko or an Oris. IF some of these factories were cheating or manipulating the market, then the market would detect it, and it would disappear out of the market again, and that does not take you to point the finger at them, the market will regulate itself. I am not saying that no regulations are needed for consumer goods, but when it comes to the price of watches, against our – your or mine – understanding of quality – then the market will care for that, without our help Re: Good First Time Buy - willy - 13-01-2013 hannover_dk Skrev:Well John i have to disagree with just about everything you write there , but thats nothing new Without critics the watch industry or any other industry would run riot over consumers . To say that critics have no influence is rubbish in my opinion . Companys have been ruined by critics in the past and will be in the future . To say that the market can regulate its self is not true . Ask Mercedes when they introduced the first A models onto the world . Motor journalists forced Mercedes to change the car . They had to give it ESP at a cost of millions , to make it safe enough to drive . According to your way of thinking a few thousand users should have been killed first before the market regulated its self .willy Skrev:And the evil watch industry as you call it , is stealing money out of rich and poor alike . It is without doubt that there are consumer issues which needs ombudsmanden to look at things – but you – as the warrior against the evil watch industry, does not help the consumer one even the smallest way forward. I can only give my opinion of a watch . You can agree or disagree about that opinion . Do people like me have influence about what people buy ? The answer is a big yes . Of course i do if someone asks on this site about buying a watch . And i tell them it is a crap watch ,where you tell them it is a good watch . They might believe you and buy the watch or believe me and not buy it . It is all about who they trust and believe . So to say that anyone who gives an opinion on a watch blogg has no influence is just not true . Public opinion about any watch brand can make it or break it . That is why they spend so much money buying watch sites and trying to control critics . Ask Rolex about Walt Odets and his criticism of the Explorer caliber . Rolex had to pull out all the stops to try to discredit poor Walt No it all comes down to who people choose to believe in the end . And you or me have no influence on that . I believe the market is much more self-regulating - if a brand does everything wrong it will disappear, People will learn from neighbor, farther - colleagues and friends much more than from us – If all in general are happy with Rolex and Omega, then they will continue to sell. If they make a new lousy watch which breaks down, then that will spread as the news – and that is the self-regulation.. What you write here at this blog is not changing the turnover for Rolex, Omega or Oris in any way that matters. Sorry to say, you are not Walt Odet – but I agree he may have made a difference, though it is hard to measure those things – maybe he increased the sales of Rolex. You can no way compare yourself as a watch critic and the influence you (or I) have, with the influence of professional people in automotive business – FDM or whoever, making car tests. People in general read a lot of those and are influenced somehow, but very few watch buyers read vintageure or even the big international sites. The turnover in new watches, coming out of such members is a drop in the sea to the watch industry Of course you can influence an individual person in a local forum, and that is good and natural, but if you do it, by telling a happy new buyer that he just bought an overpriced watch and will lose on it, then it is just about as intelligent as it would be if your son showed you his new baby, and your only comment was, that the baby looked stupid. Not very helpful to anyone is my point. Case closed - br Re: Good First Time Buy - Bjarne - 13-01-2013 Og resten af dialogen kan tages som PB Tror pointen er fanget |
