Is it okay to change the apearance of a vintage watch?

I recently did a deal for a Rolex Datejust gold & steel 1977 model with a linen gold dial.I like the watch but found it difficult to read the time.Silver hands on a gold dial is not the easiest combination.So i decieded after a talk with Ravnkild to change the dial to a normal gold dial and put black hands on the watch.I will of course keep the original dial and hands.Has anyone else on this site tweeked a vintage watch to make it more usefull for daily wear? Or have i committed a sin in the eyes of vintage people? Willy
